How to beat a shield in 7 seconds (vid)

Watch carefully, this two handed sword wielder takes out a shield man in less than 7 seconds flat. What were you saying about your skills again? :p  Click "Read more »" for videos

  1. Can't see the two hander land a single shot. Ran the vid over and over and can't determine why the shield was dropped. What am I missing?

  2. The angle makes it look like the shot didn't hit perhaps? I have no idea what you're talking about though, it looked like a hit to me. The thing is, when he hits, he moves the sword PAST the hit to block the next strike from Frost, that may not be how you're used to seeing red hits, so... But as one who has fought exo, I can tell you, he lands strikes, and HARD. Amusingly I've done the best against him dual-weilding.

  3. I've tried pausing and dragging, and I can't see the hits, even though I re-loaded the vid hoping for a few extra frames. None of those shots looked solid enough to break the shield. Red shots should make your opponent stagger.

  4. You don't even have to see the hits, you can hear them...

  5. It looks like he's carrying a big punch shield- it's much easier to rock those with a glancing blow. I can definitely hear the shots, but I don't know that those particular swings would have taken out a strappy shield.

  6. Plz when you have to pull your sword back so far you open yourself up alot. Try doing this with someone that knows how to fight... You will get beat.

  7. man talking junk... i guess this is why we fight on the feild as well as off

  8. The last swing by the guy w/ the red clearly tagged the sword arm of his opponent. You can hear two distinct cracks during the 2nd exchange. Even if you can't see it, you can hear that he did indeed smack the shield and block his opponent's swing.

That said, he wasn't actually killed, he was de-shielded and lost his sword arm to a seriously fast fighter. Where was the 2nd limb or torso hit to make it count?

  9. poor shield work more than anything else.

  10. It would of been much differant if he were fighting Sir Snake Eyes of Annihalus....
Or someone with Alot better shield skills...
Annihalus comes... Annihalus kills... Annihalus makes them bend to our will...

  11. I'm an SCA fighter, so I don't know much about these rules... but it seemed to me that the two-handed fighter tagged the shieldman's shield arm on a rebound swing, and then his sword arm. I didn't see any strong impacts on the shield itself.

Two limbs is a kill in Dagorhir, is it not?

  14. I think the confusion from amtgarders may be because we don't allow shield breaking during normal sparring. Those guys look like Bel or Dag fighters. That being said the guy with the two hander didn't seem especially fast, the shield guy just sucks. Just my opinion.

  15. I suspect this video may have been made to demonstrate how fast the guy can go and it may have impacted the fighting quality the shield man put in. Though, with the way the red guy is jumping around, I might be a bit thrown off first fight myself...

  16. Not to take away from red sword, buddy is swinging wicked fast and seems to know what he is doing, but the Shield fighter to be fair doesn't seem to know what he's doing/was "paid" to not finish the fight. Notice how after the first red strike, shield guy goes to swing and takes a small step back from the red instead of closing the gap.

  17. There is a clear difference in skill here, considering Exo can beat Frost with a two-hander he can probably beat him with single too. I don't see a kill shot, but non of these shots seem to equate to what I've encountered in Bel fighters, so honestly its more like Exo is an experienced Bel fighter and Frost doesn't know how to use a shield against reds.

  18. Any chance it was the shield guys first day fighting? That might explain it behavior best.

  19. I think the best bet when placing videos is the style of fighting. Coming from Amtgard, The weapon isn't big enough to be considered a Red weapon, Nor is there Red weapons in Ditching, or as someone previously said "Sparring" So thus the shield break confused me. I still don't know if this is Bel or Dag, so a good reason to mention what style it is :)

  20. The differences between Bel and Dags rules as far as I remember [from playing three years and not really looking at either rules since I started] the differences are mostly inane construction differences or nomenclature. So treat it as either/or in the absence of a tag.

  21. I counted 3 red swings. The 1st hit was solid, the 2nd was as well, but it's a wonky camera angle, and the 3rd missed entirely, but it's still 2 hits to the shield. Or at least that's how it looked to me.

  22. It's Dagorhir. That's from when both of those guys were in my unit and it's the field that we still practice on. Frosty (the shield bearer) is also pretty new in this vid.

  23. What MFT said is true. Video quality isn't perfect so it can be hard to see, but I get hit in the chest right after the shield drops.

I think I had been playing for... 3 months? Maybe 1 battle.

  24. Oh, and trust me, all of Exo's shots were hard. This was when a practice was wrapping up and I wanted to go 110% swing strength with him.

But yeah, I did suck :)

  25. has anyone considered the ridiculousness of the alternative? why would some one record a video just to make themselves look good? i mean out side of ego purposes, which nobody really cares about. the real skill being shown here is the application of a red strike with a downward parry. like the buddhists say, when someone points to the moon dont look at the finger pointing, look at the moon. less talk more practicing! maybe then you'll be just as good!

  26. What I'd really like is a video that shows how to beat a shield in 7 seconds. This is not that video. I've seen stuff by Arthon and Dalos, but that stuff only seems to work if you are better than your opponent. :)

  27. I dl'd the vid and went frame by frame, and the two hits to the shield were solid. The shieldman is a poor fighter, imo, with bad footwork and bad shot selection. He swung the exact same swing twice, the second of which was blocked, whereas I think a better shield fighter would have swung to the upper body for a kill, especially since the red fighter's swing was coming from above to strike the shield and follow through on down.

Also, the shieldman took an arm after the second red shield hit, which should have only taken out the shield, unless we didn't get to see an earlier shield breaker hit? And it looks like the kill shot was to the torso with follow through to the leg on the shieldman.
